Have you heard of Plastic Free July? Plastic Free July is a global movement that began in 2011. This movement helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities for generations to come.

Plastic Free July is a mission that hits close to home for us, as the toy industry is one of the most plastic-intensive industries. Think of all of the tiny doll shoes, hair combs, bubble wands, or car parts just one child can accumulate ... and lose. This is why it has been important to us from the start to carry toy options from natural-made materials. We purposefully stock socially responsible, eco-friendly and environmentally conscious clothing, toys, and products – always with Mother Earth at the forefront of our mind.

Why no plastic you ask? The problem with plastic is that it does NOT break down like a natural material. It just stays. Shifting from one place to another, often ending up in our oceans.

Each year, Plastic Free July hosts a challenge to reduce single-use plastic waste. Over the last eleven years, their movement has inspired over 100 million participants in 190 countries! This challenge is very simple and is intended to make you think about all the single-use plastic we use every day. As they say, whatever you can cut out is a job well done!

Here are just a few of the many ideas Plastic Free July suggests for the challenge:

  • When ordering coffee at a café, bring a reusable cup or dine-in
  • Bring your own reusable shopping bags when shopping
  • Refuse plastic straws when purchasing a drink and BYO reusable alternative
  • Get a group together to clean up a park or a beach (see how this idea inspired us here!)

What other ways can you think of to produce less plastic waste? Send us a message on Instagram – we’d love to compile to a community-sourced list to share with everyone at the end of the month!

We’ve been inspired by this challenge and wanted to share it with our community! If you would like to join us in taking the challenge this July – you can sign up directly on the Plastic Free July website here!
